Jack Honderd

The MARTA station was just a plan when Jack and his wife, Betsy Eggers, expecting their first child, moved to Brookhaven in 1982.  Since then, they have raised and launched three children, initiated the Brookhaven Fields Civic Association, authored The Dresden Blueprint, and developed and built over 100 single-family homes in Brookhaven through their company ArchiTech.

Jack and Betsy’s most recognized local project is Townhomes at Fernwood Park which is adjacent to the Brookhaven MARTA station and consists of 72 townhomes with live/work units and an ecologically-designed green space.  It was presented with a Design of Excellence Award (2001) by the Atlanta Regional Commission.  Jack also led the design and rezoning for Brookhaven Village on Dresden Drive.

Since 2005, Jack has focused his business and professional interest on East Decatur Station, a mixed-use redevelopment by the Avondale MARTA station in Decatur.  As shown in his projects, he has been a long-time advocate of environmentally-friendly design, “smart growth” planning principles and mass transit.  He no longer has any development properties or plans in Brookhaven.

Jack is a member of the American Institue of Architects.  Apart from business life, he is a member of Brookhaven Fields Civic Association, Brookhaven Peachtree Community Alliance, and Atlanta Friends Meeting.  He also is a DeKalb County CASA volunteer.  He enjoys cycling, swimming and travel, and occupies most off-work hours with family activities.
